He just doesn't care

So, it has been four days since we started potty training with Nicholas and well, he hasn't gone in the toilet once. Thankfully he can hold it for pretty long so it doesn't seem like I am cleaning the carpet all the time, but geez, you think he would care that his underwear is wet. Nope. He pees, then comes to get me, says "mommy, come here", shows me where he peed and goes on with his business. He has only pooped once since Sunday, which is good and bad. Good since I only had to wash that out once so far. He looked pretty funny walking around in that. I haven't pushed him to sit on the toilet since he gets upset when I do so I am hoping and praying it will just click with him any minute and he will go himself. We will see. So, suggestions are always welcome. He knows the prizes he will get for going, but that doesn't seem to motivate him enough. Oh what fun.

Awww hang in there momma...

The biggest suggestion I could give you is to just not push it. It sounds like he's not interested, and I'd lay off it for awhile and then try again. Eli as well as a lot of our friends kids didn't get really fully potty trained until they were 3 and a half, and some of our friends it even took their sons till they were closer to 4. It is definitely something that they have to show interest in, and I think the worst thing you can do is compare yourself with your friends kids. Especially if they have girls. Girls just "get it" sooner... Hang in there... The biggest thing is to just not push it to the point of frustration with them, because that will make it longer. He'll get it...

I agree with Stacey. The more we pushed C-man, the more accidents he would have and eventually he would pee/poop on the carpet on purpose. Like, he was naked and laughing that evil laugh while doing it. I finally realized they just do it when they are ready and nobody can tell you when that is except Nicholas. Not even the doctor. (Sorry, man!) Right now, just introduce it, read him books about it and let him learn more about it. He'll do it when he's ready.

I dido what Stacey said. I never pushed Michael T to do things, just would "suggest" and wait for him to make the move. I placed a potty chart in front of the big potty for him to see and placed a sticker on it (that he got to choose) when he went. He liked that, so that worked for him. Now, potty training at night was a different story. That has taken about a year and a half. He will be 4 in Sept. and just about a month ago, one Friday night, he said "I want to wear underwear to bed...diapers are for babies". We haven't been in a diaper since. He did have accidents if I let him have a drink anytime within an hour before bed. However, since his accident (broken leg) he hasn't had one accident. Miracle I say! Hang in there...Nicholas will come to you one day and say "I did it momma" and it will be in the big potty and there will be no turning back!
