Weekend Surprise

On Thursday afternoon I was awaken from my nap to discover one of my best friends standing in my room. She lives in California so this was certainly a surprise. I had no idea she was coming. How Burt, my mom and Marissa kept this from me is beyond words. I had already accidently found out that my best friend Stacey was to arrive on Friday night so this was a shock to say the least. What great birthday presents. I had been missing my friends from home a lot lately so this was just what the doctor ordered. I am thankful to Burt for thinking of this over a month ago and for my mom being here to assist in this wonderful birthday treat.

With that said on Thursday we hung around the house, played with the boys, ate dinner and just talked for hours which was nice. Then Friday morning we lazed around for awhile and ate brunch. After I fed Joshua, Marissa and I went out on our own. I took her for a short driving tour of downtown Montgomery, Old Cloverdale and we stopped by Liger's for some yummy desserts. We then went to East Chase and walked around leisurely and even did some shopping. How nice it was to just mosey and try on clothes without any children around. We found some pretty good sales which is always a plus. We then headed back home and hung out until dinnertime. We then went to Martin's for dinner and had some old fashioned fried chicken and good conversation before heading to the airport to pick up Stacey. Once Stacey arrived we headed to the hotel, where I even got to stay the night. Wow. I didn't get more sleep there, however, since we stayed up talking until 1am. I had to use all the time I was given to see them. We talked and talked about nothing at all at times and caught up on things that have been happening since we talked last. It was great to be able to do this in person. They both make me laugh and were able to keep my mind off of the kids for awhile. I love them dearly.

Once we got up on Saturday we headed back home for a quick snack, said hello to the family since Stacey had not met the boys before and then were off to Gracie's Tea Room. What fun that was. They even put a candle in my scone for me. How special.

Once we finished there we went back to East Chase to walk around some more and then headed back home. We then just hung around the house and played with the boys until dinnertime. My mom made red beans and rice and cornbread and Burt had made a red velvet cake. We were all treated well.

After dinner and bedtime for the boys us girls headed back over to the hotel. We had said we wouldn't be staying up late since they both had to catch early flights the next morning, but it still ended up being midnight before we shut off the lights. We were talking and got sucked into a reality tv show. Gets you everytime.

Sunday morning came way to early as I had to say goodbye to Stacey at 5:30am and then to Marissa at 7:30am as I dropped her off at the airport. However, I am glad for the time we had and for my mom and Burt taking care of the boys while we were out galavanting. Thankfully Joshua took a bottle on the morning feedings for them too. That was nice.

It is great that no matter how much time passes with Stacey and Marissa, once we talk on the phone or get together in person it is like we just talked yesterday. I love that so much about them and am blessed by their friendships across the miles. We were able to utilize every hour in the short time that they were here. It was sad to see them off, but I am blessed by the time and the memories that were made this weekend. Thank you Marissa and Stacey for making the trip and making this a birthday to remember. I guess 33 is the new 30, heehee. I was treated pretty special this year. Love you all!

Awww happy belated birthday! I'm so happy for you that they were able to come visit! I know how great that must have felt to have them there in person; the distance can be so hard!! :) Burt got lots of points for that didn't he?!!! :)

Happy belated b'day too!!! I am so sorry that we didn't call you that day, but I honestly have no idea what the dates are anymore, just trying to remember what day of the week it is!!! Being out of town didn't help either. We miss you so much and I'm so glad that you had such a great b'day and you were surprised by Burt and your Mom. Hopefully we'll get up there to see you soon!
