What are the chances.....

Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later, but we would have preferred later that's for sure. The day after Christmas Burt was setting up Nicholas' new slide/rock climb play gym outside and Nicholas was playing with his new golf clubs. Nicholas then apparently decided he wanted to go under the slide (I was not home), with golf clubs in hand, but didn't quite make it all the way over the step. Burt didn't see how he landed, but we are assuming he must have hit the ground with club in hand. He was in pain of course, but it was just a fall, he has had a million of them and been just fine. What made this fall any different right?? Throughout the night he didn't put much pressure on his right hand at all so the next day I took him to the pediatrician and he figured he probably fractured something. So, today we went to the orthopedic to have x-rays taken and sure enough he has two fractured bones on his wrist. Poor little fella. He now has a cast all the way up his right arm so he can't take it off himself. He will have to wear it for three weeks. He is being a trooper though and I am sure this will not slow him down. He was running all over the office with the cast on and wanting to climb the stairs. We will just have to watch and see how he adapts. I am sure he will be just as active though. So, our first experience with broken bones. Hopefully the last, but I don't know if we will be that blessed. I will post a picture of the cast later and pictures from our wonderful Christmas too. Nicholas so wants to get on his new slide so maybe we will get a picture of that too. He will just need more help climbing the stairs. So, that's all for now......

Our weekend in Huntsville

We went to visit our friends the Hemphill's for a weekend and boy did Christopher and Nicholas enjoy themselves (and we did too). They started off by playing with their radio flyers outside while the weather was warm, then they tackled their new stuffed animals to their hearts content, which was so funny to watch and then they jumped up and down in the crib and showed off their muscles. Finally, we tried to wind them down for the evening and let them open Christmas gifts before bed. This year they actually care about unwrapping so that was fun to watch. We don't get together as often as we would like, but when we do we have to live up every minute.

The next day our friends the Shaffer's joined in on the fun. They just moved to Georgia recently so it was a lot closer for them to come visit compared to Texas. We were able to meet their beautiful daughter Sonora and play outside again as the weather was still nice. We also had the Peterson's over who live in Huntsville. The boys played on the trampoline, played golf and hit the swing in shifts. We enjoyed a wonderful homemade pizza dinner that evening and great fellowship all day long.

My first haircut experience...

I took Nicholas to get his first professional haircut a couple of weeks ago from Heather. He didn't like sitting in the chair by himself or wearing the cape so I had to hold him. Other than that he did great. A little squirmy of course, but no crying. What a big boy.

Thanksgiving

Here is one of the fried turkeys my cousin made for Thanksgiving. Burt thought it was cool looking and had to take a picture of it.

Aunt MiMaw had to spoil Nicholas while we were at her house of course. Nicholas was in heaven eating the whole ice cream sandwich by himself. Fun times. At least she let Burt and I go out for dinner by ourselves for our anniversary which was so nice. We had a wonderful seafood dinner and enjoyed a quiet couple of hours.

The day after Thanksgiving cousin Emily and her mom Elizabeth came by to play. The two of them enjoyed playing kitchen, playing catch with a balloon and eating off a "big table" for lunch. It was tricky getting them to actually stay in one place though.

California Part 2

Grammy decided to put Nicholas to work in the yard. He loves using the rake though so it was fun for him, but boy did he get dirty. What a big helper.

We were able to have dinner with my Dad and stepmom, Cheryl while we were in CA too. Grandpa played ball with Nicholas, his favorite thing to do and then we tried getting a picture of the family.

Our visit to see Santa. Mr. Snowman was first on the stop however. Nicholas enjoyed him a lot more I think. After seeing Santa we stopped at the play center where Nicholas swam on Nemo.

We had a family gathering at my mom's house. Here Burt and Nicholas are contemplating life. Then later our cousin Hannah and myself joined in on the fun.

Our California Trip Part 1

Okay, so this is a little late in the making, but at least I am doing it now. Nicholas and I went to California the first of November and then Burt joined us the next weekend. We had a lot of fun just hanging out with family and friends. Here are a few pictures from the week and a half.

Nicholas and Taylor. Nicholas loved to sit on her and roll over her. By the end of the week I think she had had enough, but at least Nicholas gave her cookies to make up for it.

Aunt Marissa came to visit for the day. We had a great time visiting with her. She even took Nicholas up and down the slide for me at the neighborhood park. How nice of her. Nicholas was able to try out some big boy tennis shoes also. The velcro didn't stay on though with his wide feet so we had to make another trip to a specialty store to get some shoes that actually fit.

This is my high school friend Jennifer and her two kids, Megan and Brendan. We were able to catch up on our lives for a few hours too. It was nice to visit with her again and her kids are too cute.

Nicholas had to try on Burt's socks. What a little man he is.
